Depending on the reason of your facedown recovery (i.e. retinal detachment vs macular hole) will determine if you have a few weeks or closer to 10 weeks like during my recovery. There are a few common themes though regarding eye drops:
- Depending on the Retinal Surgeon/Ophthalmologist, your eye drops may be prescribed for you before surgery OR the day after surgery at a follow-up appointment.
- Often 2 prescriptions are given unless there is an eye pressure issue
- One of the eye drop prescription will dilate your eye meaning that post facedown time you may find it easier to wear sunglasses in certain scenarios due to the brightness. In my personal recovery from a retinal detachment, I had one eye drop that had to be administered for a full 10 weeks. This is definitely not the case for those who are recovering from a macular hole.
